With days passing, our depleting memories need a reminder of the happenings around. But, Kargil Vijay Diwas, on the date 26th July 1999 would have never been a miss for every Indian. It is the day when we all commemorate that our real heroes who fought selflessly, which only depicts sheer dedication towards our motherland, India.

For all who possess a weaker memory, Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on 26th July annually, since 1999. As a part of Operation Vijay, Indian Army took over the Indian posts in Kargil, which were captured by the Pakistani Army. Thus, the ceremony is in commemoration of our Heroes who shed their blood to keep us safe. Be a part of this day to pay homage to our warriors. Below are a few places that call your presence on 26th July.

Drass War Memorial –
Also called as the Vijaypath, Drass War Memorial is placed on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway 1D. This war memorial is built by the Indian Army in the memory of soldiers who laid their lives during the 1999 Kargil war between India and Pakistan. The memorial is a major tourist attraction all year round fetching a horde of travelers from across the globe. However on this day, every year the memorial turns itself as a pride booster. The sight is filled with devotion and dedication of the Indian Army. The sandstone wall that includes names of all the army personnel is one of the prominent attractions. There is a souvenir shop that sells coffee mugs, t-shirts, and hats among others. To add more, you may also get to see the peaks that Indian Army recaptured from Pakistan from the memorial.

India Gate –
Of all the beautiful places across India, New Delhi would definitely beat all on this day of commemoration. The environment is filled with enthuse around and every Indian just keeps this day safe to salute the ones for whom “Thank You” would just be an understatement. Our Indian soldiers loved our motherland more than their lives, and on the day of need, they did not hesitate to offer their last drop of blood to keep our confines safe. Feel the glory brewed in the environment at the India Gate and pay homage to our soldiers who were the true heroes. Our prime minister also visits New Delhi on this day.
