Spring – the season that lies on the brink of winter and summer, is one of those times in a year when a vacation is practically calling out to us. With the winter just shedding its coat and the pleasant weather making its way to the country, it is an ideal time to plan a getaway. For beach lovers, there are destinations like Goa and Kovalam, and for adventure enthusiasts, Coorg and Munnar are ideal escapes. With so many options to retort to, we’ve listed a few places to visit during spring break in India.

1. Kumaon, Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand, a gorgeous state covered with the Himalayan mountain ranges on the Northern side is a land of sublime natural beauty and serene spirituality. During spring, this state organizes ‘Uttarakhand Spring Bird Festival’, which showcases the beauty of myriad bird species across 25 birding destinations within the state. Attend the festival from 10th to 12th February 2017 at the Nandhaur Wildlife Sactuary (Kumaon).

2. Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir

Spring is all about flowers, colours and appreciating nature! And Srinagar is a perfect example of nature being at its best during this season. With some of the most beautiful Mughal gardens in India, a trip to Srinagar is incomplete without visiting these gardens. So don’t forget to take a stroll in the Shalimar Bagh and Nishant Garden, two of the most beautiful and popular gardens in Srinagar.

Nestled in the lap of raw natural beauty, Coorg is the coffee hub of India. During the period of March to May, the valleys of Coorg transform into a magical land. The view of tea and spice plantations blooming and fragrance of snow white coffee filling the air is mesmerising. This is also a place for trekking for the beginners. So you can head here to soak in the natural beauty or set on an adventure trail.

Spending spring in the ‘Queen of Hills’ is as exciting as it sounds! The flora and fauna of Darjeeling comes to life during this season, and the view of tea plantations is a different experience in itself. For all those who are looking for solace and some inspiration to start with a book, can head to Darjeeling.

5. Ranthambore, Rajasthan

Let’s go tiger spotting into the wild! Located near the town of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is one of the renowned wildlife reserves in India. If you are a wildlife photographer or an adventure seeker, you can head to Ranthambore to catch a glimpse of tigers and other wildlife animals.

6. Munnar, Kerala

If you couldn’t take a break from the city life in winters, spring is the perfect time to escape the life’s monotony and take a trip to Munnar. Take a walk through the aromatic tea gardens, majestic waterfalls and winding undulating paths, and you will have a delightful time in the overwhelming beauty of this hill station.

7. Goa

Considered as the traveller’s hub throughout the year, there’s no perfect time to be in Goa, but you can consider visiting it in spring. This is the time when Goa is not much crowded and you get to explore the beaches, forts and churches more comfortably. Also, during this season the booze, shopping and hotel stay is much cheaper in Goa.

8. Kovalam, Kerala

Once a calm fishing village, Kovalam is now a major tourist resort in Kerala. With the shallow waters, pristine beaches and white sand, this beach town makes for an ideal destination during spring. Here you can indulge in water sports and recreational activities, or spend time lazing at the beach.

9. Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh

Celebrating the Indian festival Holi in Vrindavan is once in a lifetime opportunity. The celebrations start here 40 days before the festival and the entire town is decorated beautifully with flowers and lights. So head to Vrindavan to join in the Holi fervor.

10. Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu

This is the perfect time to be Kodaikanal! There’s a slight fog looming in the morning and evenings, thus making the hill station even more beautiful. If you are a sleepy traveller and want to spend your spring break at a laid back hill station, Kodaikanal is a destination to consider.
