Tourism Booster: Glass-roof coaches in Indian Railways
Yes, you read that right. In an initiative to boost tourism in the country, Indian railways is all set to introduce rail coaches with glass ceilings. The luxury coaches have been jointly designed by IRCTC, the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur (Chennai). The coaches are designed with an ample leg space, rotatable chairs and infotainment systems for the comfort and benefit of tourists. IRCTC’s Group General Manager (Infrastructure) Dham Ghaj Prasad stated that the glass-roof coaches would be the first of its type in India and would rival the best anywhere in the world. He further added that the work on the project started in 2015 and the first coach is all set to roll out later this year.
The first-of-its-kind coach will be be tagged to a regular train in the Kashmir, while the other two coaches will be added to the trains moving through the Araku Valley in Vishakhapatnam. So all the travel enthusiasts, now you have another reason to travel in a train and get in peace with your wanderlust.
