It’s the first long weekend of the year and how you spend it will set the tone for the rest of the year. So get over your laziness and plan an escape from the everyday life. Just manage a sick leave strategically (if you know what we mean) and you are good to go. What follows is a list of places you can head to during this extended weekend.

1. From Delhi – Shimla

Long Weekend in Shimla

Since Shimla got its first snowfall in January, covering the entire city with a thick blanket of snow, it’s just the perfect time to plan a trip to this hill retreat. A road trip from Delhi to Shimla through the picturesque valleys and mountains is what you deserve during this long weekend. On the way to or from this beautiful city of Himachal Pradesh, you can also spend a day in Kasauli (a treat for all the travellers).

2. From Mumbai – Lonavala – Khandala

Long Weekend in lonavala

Though there are many weekend getaways near Mumbai, our favourite remains Lonavala and Khandala. These twin  cities are located at a distance of 110 kilometers from Mumbai and are a peaceful hideout for one and all. The rugged terrain, lush green plateaus and hills, waterfalls and adventurous treks make these locations a popular one amongst the travellers. So pack your bags and set on a fun-filled trip to Lonavala and Khandala on the weekend.

3. From Bangalore – Coorg

Long Weekend in coorg

Amidst all the busy schedules of working in the towering buildings and industries, there lies a weekend that will steer you away from the reach of technology trumpets. And there is no dearth of places near Bangalore where you can spend your weekend in comfort. One such destination is Coorg, a piece of heaven in the state of Karnataka. Here you can spend time visiting Iruppu Falls, Abbey Falls, Bhagamandala, Nagarhole, Nisargadhama and Omkareshwara Temple.

4. From Chennai – Pondicherry

Long Weekend in Pondicherry

With a complete urban architecture and a faded colonial vibe, Pondicherry is ideal for a weekend getaway from Chennai. If you are a traveller at heart and want to make the most of your long weekend, you must take a road trip to Pondicherry. The pleasant weather, the calm atmosphere and the beaches will make for the most scenic views you will ever embark on.

5. From Kolkata – Digha

Long Weekend in Digha

For a pleasurable weekend at a beach destination near Kolkata, you can plan a trip to Digha. It is a popular tourist destination known for its untouched beaches, temples and museums. Located at a distance of 195 kilometers from Kolkata, you can take a road trip to this destination and enjoy the scenic views on the way.

Enticing enough to pack your bags and head out? Wait, we are coming along!
